How image and content monitoring works

Copyrighted helps you find potential visual copies of your original work, compare source pages, and organize a review. Here is what the self-service app does at each step.

By Copyrighted · Product details reviewed November 2, 2026

1. Add an original image or video

Upload a PNG, JPEG, GIF, or WebP image, or provide a public image URL. Add the page where you published the original. For video, use a public YouTube link, a supported direct video-file link, or a video file from your device.

For a local video file, your browser takes four still images at approximately 10%, 35%, 60%, and 85% of its duration. Only these stills are uploaded, not the full video. YouTube inputs use thumbnail imagery. The scan is visual; it does not analyze the audio track.

2. Run a scan and inspect potential matches

A tracker brings your original work, scan status, and potential visual matches together. Each match is a candidate for your review, not a confirmed case of infringement.

Open the source page, compare the matched image with the original, and check whether the use is yours, licensed, or unrelated. Visual similarity cannot establish ownership or permission. An empty result does not prove that no copies exist.

3. Keep the review queue useful

Dismiss results that are irrelevant and allow domains you trust. Your original publication URL is excluded from matches. Keep any license details or other useful context in the tracker’s notes.

You can record a takedown request for a selected match in the app. Recording a request does not send a notice to a platform. Platform submission, legal review where needed, and follow-up are separate steps.

4. Choose a monitoring schedule

Free includes one tracker, one initial scan, and the first three matches. Creator supports up to 200 active trackers checked weekly. Pro supports up to 1,000 active trackers checked daily. Both paid plans include full match results and email alerts when matches appear.

Checks are scheduled, not continuous. Discovery depends on public source availability and visual matching, so private pages, heavily changed images, or recently published copies may not appear.

What this service does not do

Copyrighted does not register copyrights, determine whether a use is unlawful, or guarantee that every copy will be found. The self-service app does not automatically file platform notices, offer full-video or audio fingerprinting, or promise a removal outcome.

These boundaries matter when you choose which work to track and how to interpret a match. Use the result as a starting point for a review of the actual source.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between image search and monitoring?

A single scan looks for potential matches at one point in time. Monitoring repeats checks for your active trackers on a schedule, so you can review new results without recreating the search each time.

Why might a scan miss a copy?

A source may be private, blocked, recently published, or unavailable to visual search. Heavy edits can also change the image enough to prevent a useful match. No result should be treated as exhaustive coverage of the web.

Does Copyrighted upload my entire video?

For a local video upload, no. The browser extracts four JPEG stills and uploads those images. This is a visual-still workflow, not an upload or analysis of the complete video and audio.

What should I do with an apparent match?

Compare the images, open the source page, and review your permissions and license records. Dismiss irrelevant results and keep useful context with the tracker. Do not treat visual similarity alone as a conclusion about infringement.

Try the workflow with one original work.

Start with one free tracker and one scan. Review the first three potential matches before choosing a paid plan.
